The Tongariro Northern Circuit is the first of NZ’s Great Walks that we have done. This three-day trek takes you through stunning and truly unique volcanic landscapes. Head North To Cape Reinga
The beach is often used as an alternative to the State Highway in flood situations. Tour companies even drive coaches along the entire length. Spirits Bay and Cape Reinga are spiritual places for Maori. This is where spirits meet before they leave the land, as the name suggests. It is used by some to say goodbye to their loved ones loved ones. Get up close to the Cape Brett cliffs and travel through the iconic Hole in the Rock.

Uretiti Beach is a large stretch of beach between Waipu and Whangarei. Its large sand dunes are complemented by clear waves. It is one of the most beautiful Northland beaches you can stop at when you travel up north. There is also the Waitangi Treaty Grounds nearby that everyone says is a must, but at NZ$50 each, and after blowing our budget a bit on the overnight cruise, we had to skip it.
In my 3 years of nomadic life, I’ve learned that some of the best parts of a country are the locations that fewer tourists venture to.
